Let’s figure it out together
An assessment can give your family clarity, and help a child or young person get the support they need to thrive – at home, school and beyond.
Who needs an assessment?
Assessments for children and young people (ages 6-17)

ADHD
For when you, school or your GP think it could be ADHD.

Autism
If autism has come up at home, at school or with your GP.

ADHD & autism (dual)
Could it be both? One combined assessment to cover it.
The assessment journey
Assessment is a clinical process that follows a simple, straightforward set of steps. The information we ask for, and how many appointments are needed, depends on what we’re assessing for.
- Step 1
Getting started
You can begin in one of two ways: *
Pay privately
Get a GP referral
* We accept NHS referrals via Right to Choose in England only for ADHD and autism. For private patients across the UK, we're only open to ADHD for now - but autism support is coming soon.

- Step 2
Pre-assessment forms
Fill in some documents
These cover your child's everyday experiences
We’ll need details of someone outside the family who knows them well: a teacher, SENCo, coach or key worker
We understand that the best person isn't always from the child's school

- Step 3
Booking
We'll be in touch
Once we've received all your documentation, we'll book in the appointment and reach out by phone or email

- Step 4
Assessment appointment(s)
Meet the clinician over video call *
A specialist clinician gets to know your child and their day-to-day experience
Your can share your perspective, and take part in conversations when needed
We'll keep things as comfortable as possible
Appointment number and length vary by assessment type
* If you’re referred through the NHS in Essex, your child's first appointment will be in person. After that, appointments can be online or in person, depending on your needs.

- Step 5
Report and next steps
If your child or young person receives a positive diagnosis, we'll talk through the next steps together
A written report includes recommendations and next steps, including an EHCP-focused section you can use if you choose to apply for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP)

'The lady who assessed my son was fantastic. She made him feel very relaxed it was all done to suit him. If he started to get restless we could take a break, he was able to fidget it needed there was just no pressure at all which really put him at ease.'
How can a diagnosis help?
Receiving a positive diagnosis can be a significant moment for any family. Here are three ways it can help:
Gain a better understanding
A diagnosis can help children and young people – as well as the loved ones around them – learn about how their mind works, and start getting the right support.
Get the right support at school
A formal diagnosis can help you access educational adjustments that make a real difference – from extra time in exams, to specialist teaching support.
Make life at home easier
Knowing exactly what’s driving a child or young person’s behaviour makes it easier to navigate day-to-day – so there’s less friction for everyone.
Learn the tools to advocate
Whether you’re talking to a teacher or a GP, a diagnosis gives you the language to describe your child’s experience – and the evidence to back it up.
